This month I am doing things a little bit differently. Recently I came across an excellent article in the New York Times that I think you will enjoy. You will find the link below. Many of the benefits of exercise that we have learned together are featured here. Though the author might be speaking to a younger group of women than we have here in our community, the message is both good and important for us, too.
A woman’s risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease increases once menopause occurs. Conversely, bone density declines. This is all due to less estrogen circulating in the body. What can you do? The recommendation here is to focus on strength training while paying attention to cardiovascular health as well. Bone building activities including “jump training” are addressed here, too. Hops and other jumps can be beneficial but know to be conservative when it comes to joint health. Proper joint support is a must before any jump training should be considered. Please consult with your physician or movement specialist for desired guidance.

Be well and keep moving.
